The town of Villa Abecia in the south of the Department of Chuquisaca, yesterday welcomed their first set of volunteers. Michael and Kirsten Berdan from the United States will be spending the next two months helping to establish our twelfth, and newest library, as a community learning centre for the entire town.
Representatives from the Municipal government were present to welcome the volunteers Villa Abecia and to thank them for their dedication and commitment to its residents. BiblioWorks were delighted to see that the local authorities are fully committed to the project and to supporting BiblioWorks in our mission to enhance the literacy opportunities of the local people.
The first act of opening the library was to arrange all of the wonderful new books into the library shelves, before the doors were opened to the local children for whom the library offers a fantastic new opportunity to adventure in the magical world of reading.
We look forward to hearing about the meaningful work that Michael and Kirsten will be doing over the next few months and hope that they have a wonderful and life-changing experience in the beautiful town of Villa Abecia.
