BiblioWorks inaugurated its eighth library in the municipality of Tomina on February 14, 2011. The region enjoys a subtropical climate and depends on the cultivation of crops such as oregano and corn. The name of the library Khiskaluru comes from the Quechua name for a cactus that grows only here. The myth teaches that the area was inhabited only by the Khiskaluru and the town of Tomina was born from the cactus, and all residents are its descendants.
The town remains active in the library’s management and the local government has provided a range of resources, including computers for patrons to use.
