Yamparáez Biblioteca ‘Virgen de Guadalupe’ — Yamparáez is a 25-minute drive from the city of Sucre on a high, cold ‘pampa’. Even though the town is usually cold, the people there are warm. The library in Yamparáez was opened in early 2007 and since then has become one of BiblioWorks’ strongest libraries. The teachers love using the resources there as teaching tools and the kids love having a place that they can call their own.
In each library we organize a library committee of volunteers who are dedicated to supporting the activities that take place there. Yamparáez definitely wins the prize for best library committee! The group of people supporting the library there is incredibly hard-working and truly wants to see their community grow and strengthen.
The librarian has been working since the library inauguration in 2007. She is a young woman who has only had five years of formal education. In the library she has learned to read and write and be able to express herself better in her second language Spanish; Quechua is her first language. She is a genuine success story. She loves working with children and has a group that she organizes arts and crafts activities for every Friday afternoon.
